🔬 Abstract
As modern AI engineering evolves from basic single-turn chat prompts toward autonomous Agentic AI systems, multi-agent conversation graphs, and rich multimodal workflows, prompt assembly has become intensely programmatic. Frameworks such as LangGraph, AutoGen, LangChain, and LlamaIndex assemble prompts dynamically through multi-step reasoning loops, tool-calling definitions, runtime state variables, and heavy binary assets (such as audio, video, PDFs, and Word documents). However, this multi-layered assembly creates a critical "pre-flight opacity" bottleneck: developers cannot inspect the exact raw payloads dispatched across the network before execution. In agentic workflows, an undetected formatting defect or corrupted multimodal attachment in an early turn can cascade across subsequent agent nodes, causing compounding failures, excessive token expenditure, and high debugging latency.
We present prompt-inspector-ux, an open-source, local-first debugging harness and interactive visualizer engineered for both generative and agentic AI architectures. By dynamically intercepting client SDK calls pre-flight with zero configuration, the harness extracts outgoing prompt payloads and streams them in real-time to a local, media-rich dashboard. Through loopback filesystem serving and in-browser parsing, prompt-inspector-ux renders text templates, code blocks, high-resolution media, audio waveforms, and structured documents with zero network latency and complete data privacy.
